The Minnesota Twins began as the Washington Senators in 1901. A charter member of the American League, the Senators enjoyed some glory in the 1920s behind the pitching of Walter Johnson. However, the Senators were known mainly for the regularity in which they finished in last place.

The team relocated to Bloomington, Minnesota in 1961 and quickly became a contender behind the bat of Harmon Killebrew.
