The Rangers began in 1961 as the second incarnation of the Washington
Senators. The original Senators had moved to Minnesota that season to
become the Twins, and MLB awarded Washington an expansion team to replace
them. The new team continued the tradition of losing seasons, compiling
only one winning record in the eleven seasons they played in the nation's
capitol. The team moved to Arlington, Texas in 1972 and fielded mostly mediocre
teams for a couple of decades. The Rangers moved into the Ballpark in
Arlington in 1994 and soon became known for their high powered offense.
Unfortunately, their pitching hasn't matched their hitting. The Rangers have been rebuilt under general manager John Hart, the
architect of the great Cleveland Indians teams of the 1990s. This young,
powerful team promises to contend for the Western Division title and more. Before the 2010 season, the Texas Rangers never even won a playoff series before. By the end of the year, they had made it all the way to the World Series, and were competing for a chance to be champions. They came up short there, but it was still a great run, and the team carried on lots of promise for the 2011 campaign and beyond.
Still, there was disappointing news in the offseason. The team made a strong push to bring back Cliff Lee, but they lost out to the Philadelphia Phillies, a surprise contender. But the pitching staff is still stocked, and C.J. Wilson has been pitching very well, joined by guys like starter Alexi Ogando, and Neftali Feliz in the closer role.
The offense for the Rangers is dynamic, but took a hit as Josh Hamilton, last year's MVP, missed about a month of action in the beginning of the year. He's back though, and he joins the rest of the lineup with Michael Young, Adrian Beltre, Ian Kinsler and the big bat in the lineup, Nelson Cruz.
The point is that the team has all sorts of talent at the plate and on the mound, and that makes Texas Rangers tickets very popular items to have. Pick yourself up some and cheer the team on as it competes to win another AL West crown and advance to the postseason for another run. |
