The Chicago Blackhawks were riding high after winning the Stanley Cup following the 2009-2010 season. But they had to get rid of a lot of key players due to salary cap concerns, and that left the team more vulnerable. In fact, they just barely made it into the playoffs at all last year. It came down to the final day of the season before they secured the 8th and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Unfortunately, in the 8th seed they got matched up with the Vancouver Canucks in round 1. They fell behind in the series 3-0 and everything looked wrapped up. Miraculously, the Blackhawks pushed it all the way to overtime of the 7th game, but Vancouver finally squeaked it out and advanced.

The Blackhawks won't have any Stanley Cup hangover entering the season this year. They are still young, talented and dynamic, led by the one-two punch of captain Jonathan Toews, and forward Patrick Kane. Marian Hossa will also be back with the team, as well as Patrick Sharp. Those four players can work a lot of magic, and they are assisted by solid defensemen like Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook.

All of this means that the Blackhawks could be nice and primed for another deep postseason run in 2011-2012. That is, of course, if they can get some solid play in net.
