It took just about every single one of the 82 games from last season, but the New York Rangers were able to make it into the playoffs. They met their rivals, the Washington Capitals, and were eliminated, however, they have made some roster moves which they hope will spark them to a more consistent team and a deeper postseason push.

The biggest move for the team was in bringing in Brad Richards, a two-way center with great playmaking ability to help an offense which was very stagnant. Last year, especially with injuries, the Rangers solely relied on Marian Gaborik, and he had a down year without much help.

Adding Richards should be a great help for their offense, and the team has two homegrown stars as well, in Ryan Callahan, now the team captain, and Brandon Dubinsky. The defense is young as well, with Dan Girardi, Marc Staal, Ryan McDonagh, and Staal has all the makings of a number 1 blueliner for a decade to come.

The Rangers are strongest in net, with Henrik Lundqvist back there. Lundqvist has been hung out to dry by a lack of offense from his team though, and should be pretty excited about their potential this season. He led the NHL last season with 11 shutouts.
