The New Orleans Saints won the Super Bowl the season before last, and Drew Brees became one of the true faces of the game. Last year, they finished with an 11-5 record which was good for second place in the NFC South, however, they weren't able to get past the 7-9 Seattle Seahawks in the playoffs, a very disappointing exit. What will the 2011 Saints look like, and will Brees be able to carry the load of the team and the city on his shoulders yet again?
In the 2011 NFL draft, the Saints actually made a lot of noise. They picked up Heisman Trophy running back Mark Ingram at the end of the first round, and also brought in a talented defensive end in Cameron Jordan. Bringing in Ingram seemed to irk Reggie Bush, and makes running back a very deep but crowded position for the Saints, with Pierre Thomas and Chris Ivory also being key contributors.
That offense certainly is potent, with Marques Colston, Robert Meachem and Devery Henderson catching deep strikes from Brees. On defense, the team is led by guys like Jonathan Vilma, Will Smith, Anthony Hargrove, and the playmaker, Darren Sharper.
Normally, coming off an 11-5 season, things would seem pretty optimistic for an NFL club. But after their poor showing in the playoffs, the 2011 Saints will have a chip on their shoulder and something to prove to their rowdy following buying 2011 Saints tickets and filling up the dome every week.
